Overview

Ravencoin at a glance.

Ravencoin is a peer-to-peer network designed to handle the creation and transfer of digital assets on top of a Bitcoin-style chain. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

How it works

How Ravencoin works.

Ravencoin uses a proof-of-work algorithm called KAWPOW, which is designed to favor consumer graphics cards and resist specialized ASIC mining hardware. Miners compete to add blocks roughly once a minute and earn the block reward in RVN. The project launched with no premine, no ICO, and no coins reserved for founders.

Consensus: Proof of work (KAWPOW)

Ravencoin uses a proof-of-work algorithm called KAWPOW, which is designed to favor consumer graphics cards and resist specialized ASIC mining hardware. Miners compete to add blocks roughly once a minute and earn the block reward in RVN. The project launched with no premine, no ICO, and no coins reserved for founders.

Asset creation

Users can issue uniquely named tokens by burning a small amount of RVN, which makes creation deliberate and discourages spam.

KAWPOW mining

The proof-of-work algorithm is tuned for GPUs so that mining stays open to more participants and resists ASIC concentration.

Fair launch

RVN was distributed only through mining from day one, with no premine, ICO, or developer allocation.

Unique and divisible assets

Issuers can set how many units a token has, how many decimals it divides into, and whether the asset is unique or fungible.

Ecosystem & usage

What Ravencoin is used for.

Ravencoin centers on asset issuance, wallets, and GPU mining.

Issuing tokens

Create named assets, from fungible tokens to unique items, by burning RVN to register them on-chain.

Transferring assets

Send issued tokens and RVN directly between wallets on a public peer-to-peer network.

Mining

Use consumer GPUs to mine RVN through the KAWPOW algorithm and help secure the chain.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is Ravencoin used for?
Ravencoin is used to create and transfer digital assets and to send its native coin RVN between wallets on a public chain.
How does Ravencoin reach consensus?
It uses proof of work with the KAWPOW algorithm, which is designed for consumer graphics cards and to resist ASIC mining hardware.
What is the RVN supply?
The RVN supply is capped at 21 billion coins, issued to miners through block rewards that halve over time.
Did Ravencoin have a premine or ICO?
No. Ravencoin launched with no premine, no ICO, and no coins set aside for founders, distributing RVN only through mining.
Can I hold RVN in Zypto App?
Not yet. RVN isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add Ravencoin using the "Request Ravencoin" button above.
