What is NEO?
NEO is a layer-1 smart contract platform that launched in 2016, originally under the name Antshares, and is sometimes described as one of the earliest blockchains to come out of China. It positions itself around a 'smart economy' that combines digital assets, digital identity, and smart contracts. The NEO token represents a stake in the network and produces a second asset, GAS, which is used to pay for transactions and computation. This two-token model separates ownership from the cost of using the chain. NEO is one of the longer-standing smart contract platforms in the market.
