Overview

eCash at a glance.

eCash (XEC) launched in July 2021 as a rebrand of Bitcoin Cash ABC, the minority chain from a November 2020 Bitcoin Cash split. It keeps Bitcoin-style proof-of-work mining and adds the Avalanche protocol on top to finalize transactions and blocks faster. The project also moved to two decimal places to make everyday amounts read in whole numbers. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

How it works

How eCash works.

eCash mines blocks with the SHA-256 proof-of-work algorithm inherited from Bitcoin, so miners compete to extend the chain through hashing work. On top of that it runs the Avalanche protocol, where staked nodes poll each other to agree quickly on the validity and order of transactions. This layered design is meant to give blocks faster finality and added defense against chain reorganization.

Consensus: Proof of Work (SHA-256) plus Avalanche

eCash mines blocks with the SHA-256 proof-of-work algorithm inherited from Bitcoin, so miners compete to extend the chain through hashing work. On top of that it runs the Avalanche protocol, where staked nodes poll each other to agree quickly on the validity and order of transactions. This layered design is meant to give blocks faster finality and added defense against chain reorganization.

Avalanche layer

Staked nodes use the Avalanche protocol to reach agreement on transactions and blocks, adding faster finality on top of proof-of-work mining.

Staking

Holders who meet a minimum amount can run a node with a stake proof and take part in Avalanche consensus.

Two decimal places

eCash uses two decimal places so common amounts show as larger whole numbers rather than long fractions.

Bitcoin Cash lineage

eCash descends from Bitcoin Cash ABC and keeps the Bitcoin-style ledger and 21 trillion unit supply model.

Ecosystem & usage

What eCash is used for.

eCash is used for payments, staking, and apps built on its Bitcoin Cash style ledger.

Everyday payments

Send XEC between wallets as a low-fee proof-of-work cryptocurrency aimed at routine spending.

Staking

Run a node with a stake proof to join Avalanche consensus and earn staking rewards.

Merchant tools

Accept XEC through wallet and payment-button tools built by the project for online checkouts.

FAQ

Common questions.

What was eCash before?
eCash was previously called Bitcoin Cash ABC, the minority chain created when Bitcoin Cash split in November 2020. It rebranded to eCash in July 2021.
How is eCash different from Bitcoin Cash?
eCash added the Avalanche protocol for faster finality and switched to two decimal places. It is a separate blockchain from Bitcoin Cash with its own token, XEC.
What is the supply of XEC?
eCash has a cap of 21 trillion XEC, which represents the same total satoshi count as Bitcoin scaled to its two-decimal unit.
What does the Avalanche protocol do here?
It lets staked nodes poll one another to agree quickly on transactions and blocks, giving eCash faster finality than proof-of-work alone.
Can I hold XEC in Zypto App?
Not yet. XEC isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add eCash using the "Request eCash" button above.
