The shared ledger
Accounts, balances, posts and votes all live in one public ledger with human-readable usernames. Anyone can run a node and verify it.
Delegated Proof of Stake
Token holders vote for 20 elected witnesses, plus a rotating backup slot, that produce blocks in turn. Stake-weighted votes choose who secures the chain.
Resource Credits
Transactions are paid for with Resource Credits, which you receive by staking HIVE into Hive Power. Everyday actions cost no per-transaction fee, you just hold a stake.
HIVE, HBD and Hive Power
HIVE is the liquid native token, Hive Power is staked HIVE, and HBD is a USD-targeted token with a savings option. Three roles, one network.
Broadcast
You send HIVE or post content. The action is signed with your key and broadcast to the network, where the current witness collects it into the next block. Your Resource Credits cover the cost, with no per-transaction fee.
Produce
The 20 elected witnesses, plus a rotating backup slot, take turns producing blocks. A new block is added roughly every three seconds and broadcast to the rest of the network.
Confirm
Once enough witnesses confirm a block, the network advances its last irreversible block, usually in under a minute. After that point the result is settled.
