Overview

Casper at a glance.

Casper is a public Proof of Stake blockchain that runs WebAssembly smart contracts and targets business and enterprise adoption. The 2025 Casper 2.0 upgrade introduced the Zug consensus protocol, which adds instant finality so a confirmed transaction is not reversed. Here is how it works and what it is used for, not the price.

How it works

How Casper works.

Validators stake CSPR to take part in producing and finalizing blocks. Token holders can delegate their CSPR to a validator to share in rewards without running a node. The Zug protocol introduced with Casper 2.0 provides instant finality, meaning a finalized block is settled and not subject to reversal.

Consensus: Proof of Stake (Zug)

Validators stake CSPR to take part in producing and finalizing blocks. Token holders can delegate their CSPR to a validator to share in rewards without running a node. The Zug protocol introduced with Casper 2.0 provides instant finality, meaning a finalized block is settled and not subject to reversal.

WebAssembly contracts

Smart contracts compile to WebAssembly, so developers can write contract logic in languages that target Wasm rather than a single bespoke language.

Instant finality

Under the Zug consensus protocol, once a block is finalized it is settled. This is aimed at use cases such as regulated assets where reversals are unacceptable.

Upgradable contracts

Casper supports on-chain contract upgrades, letting teams patch or extend deployed contracts under defined rules instead of redeploying from scratch.

Delegated staking

Holders delegate CSPR to validators to earn a share of staking rewards while the validator handles block production and uptime.

Ecosystem & usage

What Casper is used for.

Casper is used for enterprise applications, tokenized real-world assets, and developer tools built on its WebAssembly runtime.

Tokenized assets

The instant finality model is positioned for tokenizing real-world assets such as property and commodities where settlement must be final.

Enterprise applications

Businesses build permissioned and public applications on Casper using upgradable WebAssembly contracts.

Staking and delegation

CSPR holders delegate to validators to help secure the network and earn staking rewards.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is Casper?
Casper is a public Proof of Stake Layer 1 blockchain that runs WebAssembly smart contracts and is aimed at enterprise and developer use. Its native token is CSPR.
What consensus does Casper use?
Casper uses Proof of Stake. The Casper 2.0 upgrade in 2025 introduced the Zug consensus protocol, which adds instant finality so finalized blocks are not reversed.
What is CSPR used for?
CSPR is the native token. It is used to pay transaction fees, to stake for validating, and to delegate to validators to earn staking rewards.
Can I stake CSPR?
Yes. Holders can delegate CSPR to a validator to earn a share of staking rewards without running their own node.
Can I hold CSPR in Zypto App?
Not yet. CSPR isn't in Zypto App at the moment. You can hold it in any self-custodial wallet, and you can ask us to add Casper using the "Request Casper" button above.
